Perfectly Imperfect

It's time we had a heart-to-heart talk about marriage, what it's really like. As much as I love sharing all of our happiest moments with you, I also think it's important to be honest, to tell you that marriage is tough and that ours isn't perfect.

After two years I've learned that marriage has seasons, good and bad, and right now we happen to be in a really good season. We've faced a few challenges along the way, but we've learned so much from those experiences.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that our lives aren't perfect, we aren't perfect. We argue and fight and both act selfish at times, but at the end of each day we remind ourselves that we're a team. We're in this together. For better or worse, remember?

I know that life isn't a fairy tale and that there are going to be difficult days ahead, but I'm okay with that. As long as we both try everyday to be the best husband and wife we can be, I'm okay with that.

I'll take perfectly imperfect any day.

Weekend Update: Valentine Edition

This weekend perfect

I took off of work on Thursday evening, and we had a relaxing Valentine's Day at home. We exchanged gifts, ordered pizza and caught up on some of our favorite shows.

On Friday Brandon planned a surprise lunch and took me to King's Inn, which is now one of my favorites. The food is served family style, and we ordered fried catfish, shrimp, onion rings and avocado salad. It was amazing!

That afternoon we went into Corpus to exchange Brandon's new cap for the right size, and while we were in town we had dessert. Brandon had frozen yogurt, and I enjoyed a cake pop and green tea frappe from Starbucks. {Thanks, Tiff! I used my gift card!}

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing and doing a few things around the house. We hadn't spent an entire weekend at home together in a while, so this this weekend was just what we needed.

12-11-10, Two years later

Two years ago today we said 'I do'. It was one of the best days of my life.

Happy Anniversary, B.
I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for us!

Nothing I say will be good enough...

On Saturday night my grandpa died.
We were at a wedding, a close friend's wedding.
It was my mom and dad's anniversary.
We were laughing, talking, and taking pictures with long-time friends.
Yes, one minute we were laughing, talking and posing for pictures,
and the next minute we were crying.
I was sobbing.

I was prepared for this. I had been prepared for months.
I knew Grandpa was sick.
I knew that some days he wasn't even Grandpa.
I knew that the best place for him was in heaven with Grandma.
I knew that my aunts were there.
I knew that hospice had been called.
I knew the morphine had been given.
I knew all of this.

But no matter how much you know,
no matter how much you prepare,
it still hits you like a ton of bricks.

And since then, I have been wanting to write.
I have been wanting to sort through my jumbled thoughts and emotions.
I have been wanting to clear my head,
get out of this fog.

I have been wanting to write about Grandpa.
About his life, and the memories we share with him.
I have been looking through photo albums,
searching, grasping, longing to see him again.

I have been wanting to write a blog, share the photos,
relive the memories with you.
I want you to know what a great man he was,
what an incredible Grandpa he was.

But no matter how many stories I tell or how many photos I share,
it will never be good enough.
Nothing I say will be good enough.

~~~~
To all the friends who were with us on Saturday night,
thank you.
To my aunts, uncles, and cousins who were with Grandpa,
I'm so glad he wasn't alone.
To the special person who drove to camp get my sister,
you will never know how much we appreciate you.
And to my Grandpa,
I will always love you.
Love {& Marriage}
Someone I look up to once told me that love is a choice.
And now, I know exactly what she meant.
Each morning when you wake up, you choose to love.
You choose to love your hubby no matter how many times
he leaves his cap, shoes, or clothes in the living room floor.
You choose to love him even when he uses the lasagna scoop to flip meat on the stove.
You choose to love him even if he doesn't rinse his dishes the way you'd like him to.
And you know what?
He chooses to love you too.
Even though you buy the wrong kind of Oreos.
Even though you don't fold his socks the way he likes them.
No matter how much you fuss over the little things he does wrong differently than you.
Yes, love is a choice.
And it's a choice I will make every day, for the rest of my life.
