Dallas Weekend

This past weekend Brandon was in Dallas doing training for work, so I drove up and spent a few days with him. Here's a glimpse of what our weekend included:

 American Idol
Say 'Hello' to your top 13!!
As some of you know we became hooked on American Idol last season. We watched the entire season together, picked out our favorites, and we I voted like crazy (Go Scotty!!) This season we haven't gotten to watch every episode together, but we still keep up and watch when we can. As we were watching on Thursday night, we noticed one of the contestants, Skylar Laine, was wearing a Double D Ranchwear jacket! So cool!!

Fat Straw Bubble Tea
Green tea milkshake, Mango bubble tea,
Strawberry-bananna smoothie
Remember Britt and Dustin?? They just moved to Dallas a few weeks ago, and we met up with them on Saturday for our first "bubble tea" experience. I had always seen people on campus using giant straws to drink funny-colored beverages with what looked like marbles on the bottom, and I always wondered what it was. Well those "marbles" are called bubbles, and the giant straw ensures that you get some with every sip! After explaining to the lady that we had never tried bubble tea, she handed us each a sample cup and said "Just shoot it and chew it!" Ha! It was an interesting experience! And it was great catching up with our newlywed friends :)
BTW--Britt blogs too!! Click HERE to read!

Bleu Edmondson Concert
Bleu put on a good show!
Bleu Edmondson currently holds the #1 spot on Brandon's favorites of Texas Country, and he just happened to be playing in McKinney, TX this weekend. On Saturday evening we had dinner with our friend, Craig, and then all went to the concert. It was a fun night!

B and I at the concert.

We had a great time in Dallas! And some of you may be wondering where Princess (or "P" as Brandon calls her)  was during this trip...

Going for a ride around Yoakum
Picking out plants at Handy Stop
She was living up to her name and being treated like a real "Princess".
Thanks, Mom and Dad, for puppy-sitting :)

Writer's Block

It's been almost a month since my last post. It's not that I haven't wanted to write, because I have. But everytime I sit down and click 'New Post' I dont know where to start. I've had so many thoughts running through my head lately, and I can't seem to sort them out in a way that makes sense.

Brandon's job has kept him busy, and I am continuing to sub. I've had several classroom 'firsts' and am learning with each job what I like and don't like about the classroom. We've made new friends, tried several new restaurants, and seen a few good movies. We spent an afternoon at the aquarium and are contemplating planting a garden.

Life is good. I just haven't felt like writing about it. But this is just a phase, and I will be back to blogging soon.

Happy Monday :)

Austin Visit

A few weeks ago (yes, I know I'm behind) I went to Austin to spend the night with Michelle. I had heard about a memorial concert for a former patient of DCMC (read her story HERE), and as I was telling Michelle to go and take all of her friends she said, "Why don't you just come and go with me??" So I went!

Yes, all of our favorites were there :)

I drove to Austin the day of the concert, and I got there just in time for lunch. After dropping my bags off at Shell's apartment we walked over the The Drag. We enjoyed catching up over some Chipotle (which reminded me so much of campus lunch dates during college), and then spent the afternoon looking around in a few of the shops on The Drag. That's when we came across this:

Campus Candy Yogurt Bar, AKA Heaven
A brand new yogurt shop! And not just any self-serve yogurt shop. This place is a yogurt shop, candy store, and Cheesecake Factory dessert bar all rolled into one! Michelle literally had to drag me away from it. But don't worry..I made her go back! Let me give you a tour...

L-R: Candy wall, Yogurt topping bar, Frozen yogurt dispensers
Our bags of candy, Cheesecake Factory Red Velvet Cheesecake
and Cheesecake Factory Vanilla Bean mini-cupcake
This was such a fun way to end our afternoon! After giving ourselves tummy-aches, we got dressed and headed to the concert. We had such a good time! Just thinking about this night makes me smile :) I got to hang out with my sister, listen to some of our favorite Texas Country artists, and I got to see several of my friends from the hospital. It was a perfect night!

Curtis!  Michelle and I swear he made eye contact with us! Ha ;)

Such a fun atmosphere... They all sat on bar stools, guitars in hand,
and took turns singing acoustically.

Loxy and I-- She's seriously one of the most amazing people I know!
I could go on and on with stories of how she made our work days fun :)

Thanks for telling me to come!!

** I had the opportunity to witness Amberlynn's generosity first-hand on Christmas Eve 2010. I cannot explain in words the impact she had on patients and families who had to spend Christmas in the hospital. I will never forget that experience.
